Althought already from the time in which Arabs dwelled in our earth have the news of the existence of gravepines in ours mountain ranges, it was not to the end of century XIX when wine boilled in Alboloduy. Therefore, because history has demostrated it, we can affirm, that Alboloduy has been always land of wines.
Description of the municipality:
Great municipality of extension that with around 700 inhabitants, gives rise to one of the low population densities in the region. One is located in the eastern end of Sierra Nevada, occupying great part of the east slope of the hill of Montenegro and penetrating in the called Tabernas desert. Population is grouped in the village, located in the right margin of the Nacimiento river, which cross in south direction this municipality. Uninhabiting is clear with the abandonment of full villages as las Alcubillas bajas, Aldea Gebera and LLano del Campillo whole, extensive plateau located in the north part of the municipality with several rural houses, today left, where a little agriculture stay absentee, craded in the olive tree and vineyard.
Reasons that have taken to choose this ubication:
This municipality is one of the greater producers of grapes for vinification of our region, reason why, by means of creating ours vineyards, we try to contribute to the permanence and development for the traditional grape growing in our village. It is the place where our families resides and a way to generate our own jobs to the time we give this option to young people of this municipality which, by shortage labour supply, have been forced to move to other zones of the province.
To give an added value to the grape of our municipality.
Indeed, this town joyed of right fame during great part of the last century throught the excellence of our wines. In Montenegro area, to an altitude between 800 and 1500 metres, existed more than 300 has. of vineyard, as appeared in the catastral cense of the municipality. That produced around two millions kilograms of grapes during a campaign, more of them is solded to wharehouses of outside the province and another part, elaborated in the jaraices or trapiches that existed in the villaged, producing a characteristic wine which was solded in many Almeria´s bars. Thats the reason that a lot of people have been in Alboloduy to buy them. The principal variety of grape was the Jaen blanca, that dressed with a mixing of Tintilla gave to this wines its cock crest characteristic colour.
At the end of the last century, since 80´ decade, the problem of the lack of infraestructures to accede to this zone of Montenegro with mecanic tracks resources and the strong uninhabiting that municipality suffered, would be propicious to the Montenegro vineyard desertion, moving the cultivator activity to the Campillo area, since its grater accesibility, allows to use moderns mecanics means of cultive.
Indeed, during the two last decades, in Campillo area has planted a great variety of vineyards (Tempranillo, Merlot, Siray, Cabernet, Sauvignon....) but is Jaen blanca, adaptated to our climate for several centurys, which keep its hegemony.
